Premier League side Muhoroni Youth took advantage of the International break with a series of friendly matches in Kisumu on Thursday 7, taking on newly-formed Tiki Taka FC at the Moi Stadium.

Muhoroni, who have begun the 2023/24 premier league season in earnest- picking two draws in their opening two matches- visited Tiki Taka, a team consisting of non-contracted ex-premier league players and dispatched them 2-0.

Steve Mbulere set the ball rolling with a first half stroke that guided Muhoroni to a thin 1-0 half time lead. In the second half, Godfrey Okeya set up Abubakar Eneji for the second.

A comfortable build-up match that Coach Charles Adero is satisfied with.

’It’s important to keep the boys busy during the international break so we came to Kisumu to play Tiki Taka. They are a good side and have very experienced players in their ranks. Most of them may not be attached to any outfit currently but they gave us good opposition,’’ he says.

He says such matches also give him the opportunity to test out firing players from his unit.

‘’Not everyone gets a chance to play in the league so with such matches, I give the others a chance and as you can see, they delivered,’’ says the former Chemelil Sugar coach

Tiki Taka, a newly formed Kisumu outfit that blends ex-KPL players with a fresher generation of upcoming footballers within the city, have within its ranks such names as Arthur Ochung, Vincent Wanga, Leon Doso, George Mapesa and James Ogada.

Coach Samuel Ayoma drew positives from the loss to Muhoroni.

‘’This is just one of the many friendly matches we have lined-up. We played an experienced premier league side and lost to a good side. On our side, I noticed a lot of positives from the boys. They are eager to play,’’ he says.

He revealed that Tiki Taka, despite having ex-KPL players within its ranks, is actually aimed at breeding an upcoming generation of young players from within the county who have nowhere else to play.

‘’We have so much talent in Kisumu and Tiki Taka intends to fill the void that has seen a majority of young talented players without a place to play. We might be a new club but with a very big vision,’’ he said.

Muhoroni’s tour of Kisumu was however only half-way completed as they could not play their second match (against Rota Combined) due to the unavailability of a playing ground.

Coach Adero’s men, after registering two draws in the league, and sitting mid-table in the FKF PL log, will visit AFC Leopards when the league returns on the 16th.
