Mozzart Bet Cup: Tusker cruise to round of 16 with win over Bidco United

Tusker FC booked the first spot of the Mozzart Bet Cup round of 16 after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bidco United in a round 32 tie played in Friday 6 March at the Police Sacco Stadium from 1500 hrs.

The Brewers qualified to the round of 32 by beating Division I outfit Mwea United 3-2 in a high octane match at the Wang’utu Stadium in February while Bidco United had an easy 2-0 victory over Naivasha Police.

With Tusker head coach Julien Mette already throwing in the towel in the FKF Premier League title race, the cup is Tusker’s only hope for the title and continental football.

The match a slow tempo at the beginning and only caught pace from the 10th minute with Tusker getting their first chance in the 15th minute when, from a short corner, Stephen Etyang passed to Denis Iguma who floated in a ball that was met by Thomas Omolle but the latter's header went over the bar.

As both teams kept pushing for an opener, Etyang had a long range attempt in the 29th minute to miss the target.

Bidco came close in the 30th minute when former Tusker man David Odoyo ran past Charles Momanyi but Victor Kunyili could not convert the chance.

For their persistence, The Brewers had their reward in the 37th minute when Eric Kapaito looped a ball behind the Bidco defence and into Ghanaian striker Bless Bakai’s path leaving the 25-year-old with a simple task of slotting it home to break the deadlock and give Tusker a first half lead.

In the second half Tusker continued where they left and found a second in the 50th minute through a brilliant link up play between Kapaito amd Omolle who put Etyang through on goal for the second.

In the end, Tusker held on to their lead to draw closer to the Mozzart Bet Cup title which coach Mette said is their main objective of the season.
