They dismissed suggestions that the club could be forced into a promotion/relegation playoff despite an ongoing case before the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).

The assurances were made during a gala ceremony held in Mombasa to celebrate the club's promotion to the top flight and Marine Queens' elevation to the Women's National Super League.

The officials indicated that the club secured promotion under regulations agreed before the start of the 2025/26 season.

Speaking at the event, FKF Mombasa Branch chairman Alamin Ahmed Abdalla said the federation has no intention of altering the promotion format after the season has already been concluded.

"Everything was put in the open before the season started. Three teams were to be relegated, and three teams from the National Super League promoted.

That is what everyone agreed to, and that is what we shall stand by. There is no playoff that we will allow unless the entire 2025/26 season is declared null and void, and that cannot happen," said Alamin.

His sentiments were echoed by FKF Kwale Branch chairman Hamisi Mwakoja, who said the integrity of the competition would be compromised if the rules were changed after the campaign had ended.

"The new season should begin with the three promoted National Super League clubs replacing the three relegated Premier League sides. That is what was agreed upon before the season kicked off," he said.

Mombasa United president Abdirahman Hussein, popularly known as Anza Fresh, also exuded confidence that the club will line up in the top flight next season despite the legal proceedings.

While declining to discuss the case currently before the tribunal, Hussein maintained that the club had earned promotion fairly.

"There is a case before the Sports Disputes Tribunal, and it would not be appropriate to comment on matters before the court.

However, I can assure our supporters that Mombasa United will play in the Premier League next season. We earned promotion under the rules that were communicated before the season began," he said.

The club's promotion means the Coast region will now have two representatives in the FKF Premier League, with Bandari joined by Mombasa United for the first time.

Football stakeholders believe the development will not only provide more opportunities for players from the region but also stimulate the local economy through increased sporting activities.

During the celebrations, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir reiterated the county government's commitment to improving sports infrastructure.

He revealed that Mombasa Stadium has already been handed over to the national government for completion, and added that two FIFA-standard training facilities are under construction at Ziwani and Mwahima

The projects are expected to support grassroots football and form part of Kenya's preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

With the promotion celebrations now behind them, Mombasa are expected to begin pre-season training before the end of the week as they strengthen their squad ahead of what will be the club's maiden FKF Premier League campaign.
