Just four months ago, Munro received Canadian's highest honour.
Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) founder Bob Munro is set to be the recipient of the McMaster University 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award for his vaillant efforts across the globe.
Munro attended the University back in 1966 and graduated with a degree in history and embarked on an inspiring journey involving three continents, six countries and 11 cities.
The lengthy journey has seen the Canadian involve himself in the United Nations and the youth in one of Africa’s largest and poorest slums, Mathare.
The University award will add on to his long list of gongs which include the Order of Canada, the country's highest honour that he was feted back in July 2022.
His knack for charity was fostered when he was still in High School as he shared classes with World War II refugees from many different countries.

After struggling to graduate from the University, Munro began an international career that led to setting up a new Environmental Division in the UN’s Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva.
He also helped locate and set up the new UN Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi and also set up the new UN-Habitat agency in Nairobi as well which till date remain the only two UN agencies headquartered outside Europe and North America.
Munro traded Stockholm, Sweden for Nairobi in 1985 when his wife, Ingrid was appointed the global director for the 1987 International Year of Shelter for the Homeless in Kenya.
MYSA was then set up in the late 80’s with the aim of giving youth a sporting chance on and off the field won many tournaments, including 15 gold medals at the Norway Cup, the world’s largest international youth tournament.
Among the notable Help for Self-Help Prize, the World Sports Academy and Laureus Sport for Good Award, the Common Ground Award for Community Peace Building, the Beyond Sports Award for Global Leadership in Sport, and the Play the Game Award for Upholding the Ethical Values of Sport.
More than 140,000 youths have graduated from MYSA and include many high-achieving leaders in the public and private sectors in and outside Kenya.
