In a statement released on their official Facebook page, the Slum Boys confirmed the arrival of the former Posta Rangers custodian on a one-year contract, as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of the new season.
The move comes barely a month after Mathare undertook a major squad overhaul, parting ways with eight players, including first-choice goalkeepers Steve Njunge and Michael Wanyika.
"Welcome to Mathare United Ouru.Mathare United is pleased to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Kevin Ouru on a one-year deal. The shot-stopper joins from Posta Rangers, for whom he played an integral part in their survival last season,” the club announced.
Ouru arrives with solid experience at the top level despite his relatively young age.
The Kakamega High School alumnus began his journey with the famed Green Commandos before making his FKF-PL breakthrough at Kariobangi Sharks.
Last year, he made the switch to Posta Rangers, turning out to be a crucial figure in the Mailmen’s survival campaign.
He made the second-most appearances for Rangers last season and recorded four clean sheets, one of which came in a decisive 2-1 victory over Naivas during the promotion/relegation playoff.
That result ultimately secured Rangers’ top-flight status.
Ouru becomes Mathare’s third acquisition of the transfer window, following the signings of midfielder Jacob Onyango from Bidco United and seasoned FKF-PL winner John Macharia from Bandari FC.
These additions form part of the club’s broader restructuring plan as they aim to build on last season’s return to the top flight.
After earning promotion from the National Super League, Mathare exceeded expectations by finishing 10th on the log with 42 points.
