The Mariners hosted Manchester United in a Carabao Cup round 64 clash on Wednesday, 27 August at their Blundell Park (Cleethorpes) stadium.
Grimsby started the match on a high and got their reward in the 22nd minute when Charles Vernam controlled a cross in the box and broke the deadlock to send the stadium into a frenzy.
Grimsby thought they had added a second three minutes later but Cameron Gardener’s goal was ruled out for a handball.
The English fourth-tier side, who were the better team in the half, added a second after Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana came out of his line, but failed to deal with a ball lofted in the area from a short corner, allowing Tyrell Warren to find the back of the net.
The big moment came in the 73rd minute when Oduor was introduced for George McEachran with scores at 2-0.
However, two minutes later, United pulled one back through Bryan Mbeumo for his first goal in a United shirt to set up a nervy 15 last minutes
With the full time whistle looming, Harry Maguire stepped up and headed home a Mason Mount corner in the 89th minute forcing the match to head to penalties.
With all the four previous penalty takers scoring, Oduor was the first to miss what was Grimby’s third kick.
However, he breathed a sigh of relief when goalkeeper Christy Pym saved United's last of the five penalties to take the kicks to sudden death.
In a rare case, it was all square after 11 penalties forcing a second round of penalties.
Mbeumo, who had scored the second penalty in the first round, hit the crossbar on his second attempt to end United hopes
With the 12-11 post match penalty victory, Grimsby booked an away date with Sheffield United in the round of 32 scheduled for 17 September.
Before then, Grimsby return to league action where they face Bristol Rovers on Saturday 30 August, a match Oduor will be hoping to play a part in.
