The Slum Boys confirmed the exits on Thursday, 8 January, announcing that all of Meshack Ochieno, Peter Oudu, Jacob Onyango, and Derrick Anami had left the club during a mid-season reshuffle.

Ochieno, who is the longest-serving player for Mathare in the aforementioned quartet, brings an end to a remarkable stint at the club, which he joined while they were still playing in the second tier.

The former Shofco Mathare player joined the Slum Boys at the start of the 2023-2024 season and played a massive role in getting the club promoted back to the top tier.

The forward scored 14 goals during that season and will be best remembered for netting the opener as Mathare United beat Darajani Gogo at Dandora Stadium on 11 June 2024, leading the club to a runners-up finish in the NSL.

Ochieno, having exited the Slum Boys, is rumoured to be training with another Premier League side - Sofapaka.

Anami, meanwhile, leaves after 16 months at the club, having been signed alongside the team head coach, John Kamau, in April 2024.

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Oudu, on the other hand, exits nearly a year after his signing, having initially inked a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Slum Boys from Posta Rangers in February 2025.

Of the departing crew, Onyango leaves having spent the least time at the club, as he only joined Kamau’s side at the beginning of the current season, on what was meant to be a two-year deal from Bidco United.

The former Ulinzi Stars and Nairobi City Stars midfielder is reported to be training with Kariobangi Sharks as a free agent.

Pertaining to the departures, Mathare United wrote a short statement on their website saying: “The club wishes to thank the four for the time spent, and wishes them the very best for the future.”

Mathare, who welcome Murang'a Seal at Kasarani Annex on Saturday,10 January, are currently 12th on the Premier League standings with 18 points from 15 matches.
