Olympique fans attacked the club's training center
There is currently chaos in Marseille. At least in the area around Velodrome. Due to poor results and the way the president of the club Jacques-Henri Eyraud, who has been in that position since 2016, is doing business - angry fans of Olympique de Marseille tried to break into the club's training center and caused a fire while trying, reports from French media state.
The players should meet Rennes tonight at their Velodrome Stadium, but after this incident, it is possible that the match-up will be postponed. Allegedly, some hooligans managed to break through the fence at the entrance to the camp of their beloved club, but it is not known whether the players and the professional staff are near or at the stadium. The duel against Rennes is scheduled for 11 PM.
There has been a negative atmosphere in the ranks of the former European champion for some time now. Manager Andre Villas-Boas announced his departure at the end of the season - there was a lot of fuss about the club president Eyraud firing sports director Andoni Zubizarreta (who is a close friend of Villas-Boas) from the club. Also the uncomfortable tension in the club is more deepened by the intolerance between the two best players, Dmitri Payet and Florian Thauvin, is mentioned - which is why two great players cannot be on the field at the same time.
