The African Player of the Year for the previous season in Ligue 1, Lens midfielder, Mamadou Sangare from Mali, sits high on the Red Devils' shortlist
Manchester United lost significant quality in midfield with Casemiro's departure, and the void left by the Brazilian must be filled as soon as possible if the club wants to give Michael Carrick a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.
Carlos Baleba has long been touted as the Red Devils' primary target, but as per the latest reports, the Cameroonian is neither the only midfielder nor the only African United have eyed.
According to Foot Mercato, Mamadou Sangare is also high on the EPL club's shortlist.
The 23-year-old shone during the previous season at Lens and was one of the key players in Pierre Sage's squad, leading a fantastic campaign that culminated in a second-place finish in the league and a French Cup triumph.
Sangare made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists, though he is valued more for his midfield solidity, physical presence, and ability to read the game.
The genuine reward for the Malian's terrific season came recently when he was named the African Player of the Year in Ligue 1. It's therefore no surprise that his market value has risen to around €40 million, though United will likely have to raise the bar if they want to win the race for his signature.
Sangare has been a Mali international (16 appearances) since September 2024 and has represented Yeleen in his homeland, as well as Austrian sides RB Salzburg, Liefering, Grazer AK, Hartberg, and Rapid Wien, Belgian side Zulte Waregem, and, of course, Lens, during his club career.
