Sundowns announced the opening of the ticket sales on Monday 24 February and the club updated after a record two hours that the match was sold out

The highly anticipated Premier Soccer League (PSL) match between two South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs has been sold out two hours after the start of online sales.

League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns welcome seventh-placed Kaizer Chiefs at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday 1 March in what is expected to be a high-octane match.

Sundowns announced the opening of the ticket sales on Monday 24 February and the club updated after a record two hours that the match was sold out.

This is even though the fixture is not the biggest match in the league. The Soweto Derby pitting Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates remains not only the biggest fixture in the league but also one of the most famous derbies in world football.

Tickets for the match retailed at R10 (approximately Ksh70) for children under the age of 12 and R40 (approximately Ksh280) for everyone above the age of 12.

Sundowns also listed items that are prohibited for fans who are planning to attend the match.

Prohibited items include firearms, sharp metal objects, bottles, weapons, sticks, explosives, tear gas, mar and similar chemicals.

Sundowns are favourites to win what would be their eighth consecutive league title. After 18 matches, they have 48 points, 12 more than second-placed Orlando Pirates who have three games in hand.

Chiefs who last won the title in 2015 are seventh with 25 points to their name and go into the match on the back of a 4-1 home defeat to Supersport United in their last league match.

The organization of ticketing at PSL as well as the attendance is the opposite of what happens in Kenya.

Kenya's biggest football fixture, the Mashemeji Derby goes down on Sunday 3 March there will be no e-ticketing for use by the fans and tickets will be sold on the match day

With a large number of fans expected to attend the derby, it means that long cues will be experienced ahead of the game which provides a security risk to the attendees.
