Nairobi City Stars right back Rowland Makati believes there is more to come from him as far as goals are concerned, after nicking his first goal of the season for his club in a 2-1 FKF Premier League weekend win against Nzoia Sugar at the Ruaraka Ground in Nairobi.
The utility player, playing in a makeshift position last weekend, pounced on a spilled ball after the Nzoia keeper saved a tame effort from the penalty spot by Samuel Kapen to score the second and winning goal seventeen minutes into the second half.
The goal was a first of many, as it gave his side their first league win this season, but was also his first at the club.
“I had been waiting for that debut goal from my new position as a right back,” Makati was quoted on the club’s website on Tuesday 26 September. “I am happy it came, finally. But most importantly, I am super happy it brought us the first win of the season.”
Asked about what lay ahead for him, given that he was only making his 15th appearance for the team in the league, he added: “I believe there’s more to come from where that debut goal came from as the coach has been urging me to attack from my channel.”
A former attacking midfielder, Makati, who was also named as the game’s Most Valuable Player, said that the win could mean more for the team.
“We needed those points and I am glad that the entire team put in 100% to contribute to the win.”
Up ahead, City Stars will aim to make it two wins on the trot as they face bottom-[placed side Sofapaka FC on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
In scoring the winner on Sunday, Makati was named the MVP in the game and went on to earn a place in the team of the week after matchday four.
