Tactician credits ex boss Baraza for the fruitful "through pass" that got him the job.
Newly appointed Biashara United head coach Patrick ‘Luwowo’ Odhiambo says he is looking to hit the ground running in the Tanzanian Premier League, his first work station outside Kenya.
Odhiambo was on Tuesday morning named United head coach. He replaced compatriot Francis Baraza who ditched the Musoma based club for a struggling Kagera Sugar FC in March.
In an interview with Mozzart Sport, he disclosed that the Kagera Sugar boss played a huge role in his move to Tanzania. Baraza recommended the tactician to his immediate former employers who went ahead to hand him the job. The pair worked together in 2015 when Odhiambo deputized Baraza at Muhoroni Youth FC.
“It is true that Baraza played a huge role in my move to Biashara United. We have worked together before and he understands my coaching abilities. I want to thank him,” he told Mozzart Sports.
For Odhambo, the move to Tanzania is a totally different challenge but it is one he is looking forward to. He says it is room for him to challenge himself and further his coaching skills.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity because this will be the first time that I will be working outside Kenya. For me, this is an opportunity to learn and develop further as a coach. I do not expect things to be easy and it’s through such challenges that one gets to grow career wise,” he added.
He has kind words for his immediate former employer Kakamega Homeboyz. The tactician joined the Kakamega base side at the start of the year and he went on to wish the team good luck.
“I wish them the very best. They are all great people from the chairman, the technical team, and the players. I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me and I want to wish them success in their future assignments,” he concluded.
Another Kenyan coach who has been linked with the Biashara United job, Bernard Mwalala congratulated Odhiambo and wished him success in Tanzania.
“I am very happy for him and I want to wish him success at Biashara United. For me, when a Kenyan coach gets such an opportunity outside the country, it is a win for all Kenyan coaches because I believe it opens the market for other Kenyan tacticians,” Mwalala told Mozzart Sport.
