Works at the sporting facility began in mid-August and are expected to be completed by 31 December 2025.

According to photos shared by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya, the construction and installation of the drainage system in the facility is complete, and so is the sub-base.

“The Government remains on course to deliver the 10,000-capacity Migori Stadium in Migori County, which currently stands at 40% completion,” reads part of the post by Mvurya.

The CS shared photos of the stadium on his social media handles after a tour of the facility, where he also disclosed the stage of completion.

Currently, the installation of a natural turf is taking shape on top of the soil sub-base in a bid to ensure that the grass keeps maturing as other works within the facility continue.

Construction of the main stand has also begun, which will host the VIP section, that will include a media centre, changing rooms just below the stands, as well as VIP washrooms, among other amenities.

Mvurya, who was hosted by Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, disclosed that they were pleased with the stadium’s progress, which is part of the collaboration between the national and county governments.

With the country grappling with high levels of unemployment, the CS disclosed the role of the facility in addressing the issue.

“The project has engaged over 1,000 local residents, providing much-needed employment and improving livelihoods within the community,” added Mvurya.

Additionally, the CS also opened up on the impact of the Nyanza-based stadium on the larger sports industry.

“We will partner with the County Government to look at the issue of sports academies in this county so as to develop talents from the grassroots, which would only be possible by developing infrastructure.

Once completed, Migori Stadium will serve as a modern facility for talent development, nurturing, and scouting, opening up new opportunities for young people in the region and beyond,” he remarked.
