Kompany didn’t ask Jackson for Chelsea advice

Former Blues striker will play against his own club tonight

Nicolas Jackson was Chelsea’s main striker all of last season. But situation changed in May 2025, when coach Enzo Maresca was obviously not pleased with his performances, hence two new strikers – Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. The Senegalese got the message and tried to leave the Blues. After some late drama (due to Delap’s injury), Bayern eventually got Jackson in a loan move worth 14.2 million pounds. There is also an obligation for that switch to be made into a permanent one for an extra 56.2 million but only if he hits a high number of appearances. And now, just 17 days later, he will play against his old/current club.

The first two things which comes to mind when a player is facing his former team are secrets from the game preparation and the second is the motivation of the player against a coach and the club which let him go. Chelsea boss was asked about the first issue.

"It can probably can be a small advantage to Kompany because he can ask Nicolas the way we work, the way we try to prepare a game. At the end, Nicolas was with us for one entire season so he knows exactly the way we approach games. But at the end, we see” said Maresca.

But Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said totally the opposite.

"Technically you could, but I've already watched probably 40 games of Chelsea last season. They're an interesting team to obverse. But I don't think there's a lot of mystery around them, and I know the coach very well” said the Belgian.

As for Nicolas’ potential involvement with his former club, in which he could yet return in May 2026, Company was very positive.

"It'll certainly be a special game for him - there's no doubt about that. My wish is that he scores a lot of goals for us. I think he'll achieve that. But he doesn't have the pressure from me. Our team is a good team, a good group. He has to be a part of it and he can help us a lot” he said.
