Kenyan defender on trials in Portugal

Kakamega Homeboyz centre back Sylvester Owino is hoping that he will secure a permanent transfer to Portuguese second tier side CF Estrela De Amadora. The fast-rising defender silently left the country two weeks ago and began trials with the club last week on Wednesday.

Prior to his departure, Owino who is last season’s young player second runner up had been sparingly used in league matches as coach Bernard Mwalala often preferred the partnership between Brian Eshihanda and George Odiwour at the heart of the defence.

Owino disclosed that he hit the run away to try his luck after the move was blessed by Homeboyz technical bench and club bosses.

Homeboyz acquired the rookie in a bid to seal the gap left by Kennedy Onyango who ditched the club for Nairobi City Stars.

His exemplary performances at club level saw national U23 head coach Stanley Okumbi call him to the team that finished fourth in the CECAFA tournament held in Ethiopia in July.

Further, the towering player is understood to have attracted interests from an unnamed club in Greece.
