In a statement, CECAFA confirmed that the draw will be conducted in Kampala, Uganda, on October 31, 2025, ahead of the regional tournament, where the finalists will qualify for the continental final.

“The draw for the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA qualifiers will take place in Kampala on October 31st, 2025,” read part of the CECAFA statement.

CECAFA Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde, who recently took over from Auka Gecheo, revealed that the draw will be held at the FUFA TV studios in Kampala, owned by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

A total of ten teams will feature in the competition, which will run from 15 November to 2 December, at the Abebe Bikila Stadium and Dire Dawa Stadium in Ethiopia.

Defending champions Uganda and hosts Ethiopia will be seeded at the top of Groups A and B respectively. Each group will have five teams, with the top two from each pool advancing to the semifinals.

Apart from Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia, the other participating nations are Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, and Djibouti.

Kenya has yet to begin formal preparations for the competition. Reports suggest that the team will be handled by Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluya, assisted by Shabana’s Peter Okidi.

Last year, Kenya endured a disappointing campaign in the qualifiers held in Uganda, losing both group matches to Uganda and Tanzania to exit early.

The buildup was also marred by controversy after 20 players were disqualified following MRI age tests for being either underage or overage.
