Muguna joined the Botswana giants on Friday, 22 August, ending his two-year stay with reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC.
While Muguna considered the move a search for greener pastures, the club has confirmed a change of conditions, according to a statement released on Wednesday, 24 September.
“We acknowledge that the team is currently operating under severe financial challenges, which have adversely affected the well-being of the team,” reads part of the team’s statement.
The club went on to enumerate the genesis of their problems, including a collapsed takeover.
“Some of the challenges emanate from past seasons, as we currently still have outstanding debts from the previous seasons when the committee was not actively running the team.
The current dire situation has been compounded by unfulfilled contractual obligations from the signed management contract with CAB Management, a management company that was due to take over the operations of the team from June 1 2025,” the added.
According to the club, the only source of revenue left is from match day ticketing and merchandise, which are not enough for the day-to-day operations.
Nevertheless, the club gave assurances to its fraternity that a permanent solution is being sought with mid-October as the timeline.
“Despite all the challenges, we are actively re-evaluating our strategies and seeking alternative solutions to ensure that our team's needs are prioritised.
We are working around the clock to have a sustainable solution to these challenges as we enter into the FIFA break. We are confident that our quest to secure a new investor is going well.
We have continuously engaged our players and staff. The challenges we face have been communicated with key stakeholders, including the players, technical team, as well as supporters, at the recently held AGM,” the statement continued.
The club concluded by calling for tranquillity among all stakeholders as they burn the midnight oil to have the matter solved.
“We plead with everyone at Township Rollers FC to remain calm through these storms and believe that help is coming. We are confident that we shall overcome these obstacles and emerge stronger.”
