Budding KCB centre back Haniff Wesonga has revealed the inspiration behind his goal scoring form in the current season.
While some of the forwards in plying trade in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League are yet to open their accounts this season, Wesonga has already deposited two goals and an assist in six games.
The 20-year-old found the back of the net in their 2-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz and was on target in their last outing against Muhoroni Youth last week.
The defender claimed the assist in their 1-0 win over AFC Leopards has his flick landed on the path of Derrick Otanga who fired home from close range.
Interestingly, his goal scoring form has been inspired by Otanga who returned to the bankers before the start of the season from Kenya Police.
Wesonga disclosed that Otanga who doubles up as his sporting roommate was always on his case insisting on the significance of adding goals to his career.
"Otanga has been advising me why it is important to add goals in my career. My core business is to ensure that the team doesn't concede. However, Otanga's school of thought is different and interesting at the same time. He keeps on telling me the best way to stand out is by chipping in with goals," he told Mozzart Sport.
Otanga was the league's top scorer in the annulled 2021-2022 season thanks to the 16 goals he managed in the said campaign, attracting interest from foreign clubs.
He joined Libya's Al-Ittihad Misrata FC but his stay with the club was short-lived and thus, returned home after failing to crack it in North Africa.
Just like Otanga, Wesonga hopes to make himself a name in the local league and test himself outside the Kenyan borders.
Besides that, the player who is in his second season in the top flight bears the wish of seeing the bankers win their first ever league title this season.
"My biggest goal this season is to see the club win the league. We have what it takes to win it given the talent and depth in the team. I also hope to turn professional in future," added Wesonga.
