Next for Mathare is a home match against Mara Sugar FC.

Mathare United coach John Kamau was left disappointed with the 1-1 draw against Murang’a Seal FC at St. Sebastian Park in Murang’a on Sunday afternoon.

United went ahead in the first half before the home team, currently struggling in the league, leveled the scores in the second half. At full-time, the points were shared, much to the disappointment of the Slum Boys’ tactician.

Mathare are 12th on the log with 27 points, five points off the relegation spots. Seal, on the other hand, are 15th on the log with 24 points, two points off the relegation spots.

Kamau was disappointed with dropping points but nonetheless appreciated the one point earned from the duel, saying his team would build on it.

“It is a case of two points dropped; we deserved better than this, but we appreciate the point earned, and we will build on it,” he stated.

On how his team failed to get the job done, Kamau said his team struggled with the direct style Murang’a Seal deployed in the second half, ruing the fact that they conceded from a corner kick.

“It was a case of not dealing with long balls and players not understanding their roles. In the second half, Murang’a Seal were more direct. We gave them a throw-in, and from the throw-in, they got a corner, which we failed to deal with, and they scored. For me, it's a scenario that I believe we should have handled better,” he added.

He further emphasized that for his team to escape the relegation zone, they must improve defensively when they take the lead.

“The result is somewhat disappointing because we need to come out of the relegation battle as quickly as possible. But if we continue dropping points like this, it's not a good step. We need to defend our leads better, even if it’s a 1-0 lead, we need to do better.”
