The 48-year-old said that he would retreat to the training ground to make amends and promised wins in his next two matches

Sofapaka head coach Ezekiel Akwana has explained the reasons behind his team's poor run of form after being held to a draw by Mara Sugar FC.

Batoto ba Mungu played host to Mara Sugar in a league clash played on Saturday, 1 March at Dandora Stadium, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

With the draw, Sofapaka have now won just one of their last seven matches, with the club registering only two wins out of the 10 league matches that they have played since the departure of their former head coach Robert Matano to Tanzanian club Fountain Gate FC.

Akwana, who spoke to Azam TV after the Mara match, listed two main undoings as the reasons behind their poor run.

“Our main problem has been our wastefulness in front of goal. We had about nine clear-cut chances against Mara but managed to score only one goal. We will continue working to change that,” said Akwana.

The former Kenyan international also took issues with how his side defended set pieces after conceding a goal from a set play.

“Defending set plays has also been an issue. Our reaction while defending set plays has been slow,” he added.

The 48-year-old said that he would retreat to the training ground to make amends and promised wins in his next two matches.

“I was going for a win in the match, but unfortunately, it ended in a stalemate. I will go back to the drawing board to ensure that we pick wins in our next two matches,” he noted.

On the positive side, Akwana welcomed the return of his captain, Humphrey Mieno, who was back to the starting eleven after about a month on the sidelines.

“The return of Mieno (Humphrey) is also a boost for us as he is one of our main players and also helps in guiding the young ones,” he remarked.

The draw against Mara leaves Sofapaka ninth on the log standings with 30 points after 23 rounds of matches.
