There has been speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks but he has since downplayed the murmurs maintaining that he will remain at theclub.

Joash Onyango appears to have ended all the speculation surrounding his future at Simba, saying that he is happy at the club now that he is playing frequently.

The Kenyan international’s future at the club has repeatedly been the subject of speculation. At the start of the season, he reportedly wanted out after falling out of favor under coach Zoran Manojlovic, who was later dismissed.

The arrival of interim coach Juma Mgunda and later Brazilian Robertinho was a big boost for the Kenyan international, who regained his place in the starting XI, partnering Congolese defender Henock Inonga, as the club reached the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.

In an interview, the player downplayed all the speculation that has surrounded his future and, in the past, said he is okay at Simba now that he is playing. He admitted that being confined to the bench under Zoran had impacted him negatively.

"A lot has been said by people who seem to know me better than I do. My issue was not playing early in the season, but when the coach left, I started playing again week in and week out, and I am happy here," he told the club media.

After the team’s CAF Champions League exit at the hands of Wydad, a section of the fans appeared to fault the defender, and there were reports that he wanted out. He has since downplayed the speculation, saying only a contract termination by the club hierarchy will lead to his exit.

"I have not said anything about leaving. Pressure is everywhere and on every player, so after the Wydad game, people said I had asked to leave, but that is not the case. I still have a contract at Simba, so if the bosses decide to terminate it, it is okay because I have not signed here for life," he added.

"I don't blame the fans; they have a right to be annoyed, but what has been written about me leaving is not correct. I have not talked to anyone about it. I am still at Simba."

Onyango’s contract at Simba ends in June 2024.
