The tactician will now have to beat Gor Mahia on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium to save his job.
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano is now facing the sack after an inconsistent start to the 2023–24 FKF Premier League campaign.
Six matches into the new season, the brewers have managed two wins, two draws, and two defeats.
The last game against Shabana FC that ended in a 1-0 defeat, saw Matano confronted by a section of the fans outside Kasarani Stadium.
"We have lost the game, and everyone feels hurt, and you all know that I am a winner myself. But we have lost. Let us forget that one. I have talked to the players, and we will bounce back," Matano tried to explain himself amidst shouts from angry supporters.
The tactician will now have to beat Gor Mahia on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium to save his job.
According to club chairman Charles Gacheru, not even a draw will keep Matano on the job beyond Sunday.
"Matano and the entire technical bench have to beat Gor Mahia this weekend. They will leave the club in case of a draw or loss," Tusker chairman Gacheru told the Daily Nation.
Matano returned to Tusker FC five years ago after parting ways with AFC Leopards.
He won the 2020–21 league title with the brewers and retained it in the 2021-2022 season, although the season, run by the FKF Caretaker Committee, was later nullified when the federation was reinstalled.
