Inzaghi against his own and his 14-year-long legacy
Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 16.12.24. | 16:06
Inter Milan boss spent 14 seasons with Lazio - nine as a player and five as a coach - and now faces his former club, which seems more serious than ever in the current campaign
The 16th Serie A round is almost over, as only one game is left to be played - but not any game. It's derby day as Lazio await Inter Milan in Rome. During the previous two decades, Ie Aquile have rarely been involved in the title race, but this season things have changed, as they are tied with today's rivals on the table, sitting only six points behind the table-toppers, Atalanta.
This match will be special for Simone Inzaghi as well, given that the Nerazzurri boss spent 14 years at Lazio - five as a coach and nine as a player - making 196 appearances and scoring 55 goals. Still, the strategist will have to leave the feelings aside, as the situation is serious since six teams are currently involved in the title race, and each point can be vital.

Lazio haven't beaten Inter since August 2022 but the fact that their previous three triumphs over the Milan side came at Olimpico could boost their confidence. As could their exceptional performances this season, especially the last two victories over Napoli in Serie A and Ajax in the UEFA Europa League.
On the other hand, Inter suffered their first defeat in the Champions League six days ago in Leverkusen, but they have probably already gotten over it since they almost secured the promotion from the league phase. Hence, they are ready for tonight's challenge, which should show whether Lazio's title hopes were futile or the Romans are capable of grabbing their third Scudetto, the first since 2000.
