APS Bomet FC head coach Michael Nam has made it clear that his side is in the FKF Premier League to compete and not merely make up the numbers as the 2025/26 season kicks off on Friday.

The Bomet-based club is making its maiden appearance in the top flight after finishing second in the National Super League last season.

They earned automatic promotion alongside champions Nairobi United.

Naibois also secured continental football after clinching the Mozzart Bet Cup with a famous 2-1 win over Gor Mahia in the final.

In preparation for their historic campaign, Bomet have been in camp for several weeks and invested heavily in new signings, blending experienced Premier League players with emerging talents.

Their first assignment will be a tough test against Shabana FC at the Gusii Stadium on Sunday, a fixture that carries a derby-like feel given the geographical proximity of the two sides.

Bomet will play their home matches at the Kericho Green Stadium, just an hour’s drive from their base.

Speaking ahead of the season opener, Nam, a former Gor Mahia assistant coach, said his team is determined to make a lasting impression.

“Our goal is not just to take part; we are here to truly compete. The players know the responsibility of flying Bomet’s flag at this level, and we have prepared them to cope with the demands of the Premier League.”

The club brought in more than ten new players during the transfer window, with Nam expressing satisfaction with how quickly they have gelled into the squad.

“The lads are adapting well. They know the KPL is a different ball game, but they have shown resilience and determination,” he said.

For Nam, however, the mission goes beyond results.

He believes their presence in the top flight offers a platform to elevate football in Bomet County.

“This is an opportunity to showcase what Bomet football can achieve. We respect every opponent, but we will be intimidated. We aim to make a statement and prove a few doubters wrong.”

After the clash with Shabana, APS Bomet will host Murang’a Seal in their second fixture of the season at Kericho.
