Nyabuto made his long-awaited top-flight debut last weekend during Kakamega Homeboyz’ 2-1 defeat to AFC Leopards, in a fiercely contested Ingo Derby staged at Mumias Sports Complex.
The 20-year-old attacker was introduced in the closing stages of the match, coming on as a second-half substitute in the final ten minutes of the high-intensity encounter.
Despite his limited time on the pitch since joining Homeboyz during the midseason transfer window, the youngster announced himself in style by scoring the club’s lone goal deep into stoppage time, to mark a memorable debut.

The former St Joseph’s Youth forward reacted quickest after AFC Leopards goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi spilled an initial effort from Peter Thiong’o, showing sharp instinct and composure to tap home his first-ever FKF Premier League goal.
Widely regarded as one of the promising young attacking talents coming through Kenyan football, Nyabuto admitted that adapting to the demands of top-flight football has not been easy, especially after arriving midway through the campaign, where competition for places has been intense.
The lanky attacker, however, singled out experienced defender Potiphar Odhiambo for playing a significant role in helping him remain focused and motivated during difficult moments.
“It has been tough settling in at such a high level, especially having joined during the middle of the season,” said Nyabuto. “Settling has not been entirely smooth, but I must appreciate Potiphar, because he has been a very significant factor in my progress at the club. He has been supportive, and has always encouraged me to keep pushing, even during moments when everything felt heavy, considering there are many experienced players ahead of me in the attacking department.”
Having now opened his scoring account in dream fashion, Nyabuto says his focus has shifted towards finishing the season strongly, by adding to his tally in Homeboyz’ remaining two league fixtures.
“With two matches left, I am hopeful of scoring in each game if I get the opportunity to play because I now feel the confidence I needed is finally there,” he added.
Kakamega Homeboyz will face Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday before concluding their FKF Premier League campaign with an away clash against defending champions Kenya Police.
