The midfielder has two years remaining in his contract with the record Kenyan champions

On-song Harambee Stars midfielder Alpha Onyango is a frustrated man after his employer, Gor Mahia, rejected a $100,000 (approximately Ksh12,920,168 on current exchange rates) offer from Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel for his signature.

Impeccable media reports in Tunisia indicated that Etoile were willing to break the bank and secure the services of the midfielder, barely a week after successfully raiding the record Kenyan champions for Alphonce Omija

However, their late dash for Onyango's signature could prove futile, ahead of the Friday night Tunisian transfer deadline, as Gor Mahia have surprisingly turned down the offer.

In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, Onyango revealed that Etoile submitted an opening bid worth more than ten million Kenyan shillings that, he says, did not move K'Ogalo officials into sanctioning his move.

Further, he conceded to have agreed personal terms with the Tunisian giants, who offered a significant signing-on fee.

The bid from Tunis, for Onyango's signature, is not the first Gor Mahia spurned in the off-season transfer window, as attempts by an unnamed Libyan club to sign him did not pay off.

"I had two deals after the conclusion of the CHAN 2024 tournament. I was not keen on joining the Libyan club due to sporting reasons.

However, the Etoile project seemed promising and good for my progression. Unfortunately, my club rejected the $100,000 offer, insisting that I am not for sale, at least for now," Onyango opened up.

Efforts to countercheck Onyango's claim and establish the value the club had set, in respect to the two years left on the midfielder's contract, did not bear fruit, as calls to three officials went unanswered.

With hours left on the clock before the Tunisian window shuts, the midfielder says he is disappointed the deal did not materialise.

Onyango, who joined the Gor Mahia set up in 2017 while still a student at Kakamega High School, said he was eager to test himself in a different environment after enjoying unparalleled domestic success.

"I respectfully informed the club of my decision to leave, but it appears the deal will not sail through. I am gutted that my ambition to play football beyond our borders will flop," he said.

Onyango wondered why Gor were reluctant to grant his wish despite making a significant investment in the squad when the local transfer window was open.

"I truly believe the midfield is deep enough that the club can remain competitive, regardless of who leaves," he added.
