Morrison recently completed a free transfer to Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC after signing a three-year contract, bringing an end to a successful two-year spell at K'Ogalo.

The move caught many Gor Mahia supporters by surprise, with a section of the fanbase questioning how the club allowed one of its standout performers to leave without securing a contract extension.

Morrison had established himself as a fan favourite after inspiring Gor Mahia's successful 2025-205 FKF Premier League title-winning campaign, earning both the league's best midfielder and the Most Valuable Player awards.

The Ghanaian joined Gor Mahia from Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko on a two-year deal that expired at the end of last month, paving the way for his move to Sudan as a free agent.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Ramogi, Ngala dismissed claims that the club had been complacent during the contract negotiations, revealing that Gor Mahia had engaged Morrison over a possible extension but the midfielder had already made up his mind to leave.

"People think we slept in class on Morrison's exit, but there are players whose contracts were expiring and we tied down four of them. Morrison was already determined to leave because our league hasn't reached that level where a player is fined or punished for not negotiating a contract extension despite having a binding contract.

But we tried, and we have already identified a replacement. The fans should not feel we made a mistake or slept in class because we have, or will have, a solid replacement," Ngala said.

While Ngala declined to disclose the identities of the four players who have renewed their contracts, his remarks suggest the club has quietly moved to secure the core of its squad ahead of the new campaign.

Reports indicate that Gor Mahia have already lined up Nairobi United midfielder Enock Machaka as Morrison's likely successor, with the highly-rated midfielder expected to inject fresh energy into K'Ogalo's engine room.

Gor Mahia are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they continue strengthening the squad for a demanding 2026/27 season.

Besides defending their FKF Premier League crown, the Green Army will also be targeting success in the Mozzart Bet Cup while preparing for a return to continental football in the CAF Champions League.
