Harambee Stars are set to play Russia next month in Turkey in an international friendly match, Mozzart Sport can confirm.
The match will be played on 16 October in the Turkish city of Antalya and will kick off at 7 p.m. according to Stars head coach Engin Firat.
Firat said he was delighted to have got the friendly match against a team that is ranked 39th in the world according to the latest FIFA world rankings.
“I promised my players to do the best for them and getting this match against Russia is a fulfillment of that promise,” he said.
He added that playing top countries like Russia will help his side to get the required experience and also showcase Kenyan football to the world.
“We played Qatar, another team that hosted the World Cup last year and this has helped to put our football on the world map and will open doors for our players.”
Stars beat Qatar 2-1 two weeks ago before losing 1-0 to South Sudan and next month’s international friendly is the third in a row.
It will come weeks before the team embarks on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers where Kenya is placed in Group ‘F’ together with Gabon, Gambia, Burundi and Seychelles.
The World Cup qualifiers is the first time Harambee Stars are playing competitive football after returning to the world scene following a one-year suspension by FIFA over government interference.
