The recognition was bestowed during a colourful gala dinner held on Friday, 5 December, at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi, where the national team was celebrated for its unifying impact and captivating performances during the continental showpiece.

The award arrives on the back of Kenya’s sterling showing in their maiden appearance at the CHAN tournament staged in August.

In a month-long campaign that reignited national pride, the Stars exceeded expectations by storming into the quarter-finals in what was widely regarded as one of the tournament’s most inspiring debut displays.

Kenya produced some of the most memorable results of the competition, stunning eventual champions and three-time winners Morocco 1–0, edging two-time champions DR Congo 1–0, and overpowering Zambia 2–1.

They also put up a spirited show holding Angola to a 1–1 draw in the group stages.

Their only setback came in the quarter-finals, where they narrowly bowed out after being defeated 4-3 on post-match penalties to Madagascar after playing out to a one-all draw in regular time.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Harambee Stars centre-back Sylvester Owino shed light on the significance of the award, emphasising that the honour celebrated not only their performance, but also their role in bringing Kenyans together during a defining moment.

“The award is meant to recognise the impact made by young individuals under 40 in society, business, and sports. Harambee Stars were awarded because of the outstanding performance in the CHAN tournament, and for uniting the country at that time,” Owino explained.

The tournament witnessed thousands of Kenyans filling the Kasarani Stadium match after match, creating an electric atmosphere that mirrored the team’s spirit on the pitch.

Even after Kenya’s exit, fans continued to pack the stands, a testament to the renewed bond between the team and the nation.
