Days after suffering a post-match penalty shootout loss against Zambia, Starlets responded with an emphatic 6-0 win over Lesotho to finish third in the Four Nations Tournament in Zambia.
A brace from Eglay Mukhwana, as well as goals from Violet Nanjala, Tereza Engesha, Fasila Adhiambo and Catherine Khaemba were all that Starlets needed to complete the demolition of Lesotho.
Speaking after the match, Adam, who was also named the Player of the Tournament, disclosed why they had to win.
“We really needed to win that match, and we did so by many goals. We faced some criticism for not scoring enough in our last match and had to respond,” said Adam.
The Danish-based midfielder was also pleased with the lessons learned, the amends made, and the improvement being made by the team.
“We have learnt quite a lot, lessons that we hope will help us heading into WAFCON (Women's Africa Cup of Nations), some of which we have already implemented, like converting our chances to goals.
However, there is still a lot of room for improvement. It is a learning process until we get to WAFCON because we also made a few mistakes that the TB will look at,” she added.
Her sentiments were shared by Simba Queens defender Ruth Ingosi, who believes they are heading in the right direction as they await the 2026 WAFCON.
“It was a good game with good team performance. We were determined to finish it on a high as we geared towards an even bigger tournament.
The motivation has been WAFCON, which is also the World Cup qualifier. We wanted to build a momentum and team spirit that we can carry there,” said Ingosi.
The experienced defender also took time to share her overall assessment of the team ahead of the continental tourney.
“The confidence in the team is high, which is a result of good coordination happening in the team,” she stated.
