The clash brings together two sides relegated from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) last season, both desperate to find consistency and mount a swift return to the top flight.

After a promising start to the campaign, City Stars have stumbled in recent weeks, losing back-to-back matches.

They suffered a 3-2 defeat to Kibera Black Stars, followed by a narrow 1-0 loss to Darajani Gogo.

The dip in form has seen Salim Babu’s charges slip from the top five to 12th position on the 20-team log, seven points adrift of joint leaders Mombasa United, Migori Youth, and Kibera Black Stars.

The Kawangware-based outfit will be eager to rediscover their rhythm and return to winning ways.

Their opponents, FC Talanta, have endured a similarly frustrating spell, going four matches without victory and scoring just once since the opening day of the season.

Jackson Gatheru’s men have registered three consecutive goalless draws in matches against Gucha FC, 3K FC, and Nzoia Sugar FC, alongside a 1-0 defeat to Migori Youth.

Backed by the Communications Authority of Kenya, Talanta will be keen to reignite their attacking spark and climb up from their mid-table position, where they currently sit 11th, level on points with City Stars.

In their 15 previous top-flight meetings, City Stars have historically held the upper hand, boasting seven wins compared to Talanta’s three, with five encounters ending in stalemates.

That record will inspire Babu’s side as they look to reassert dominance, while Gatheru’s men will be equally motivated to rewrite the narrative and snap their rival’s winning trend.

Victory for either side would lift them to nine points, potentially propelling them into the top six and narrowing the gap to within five points of the league leaders, a crucial incentive as the season begins to take shape.

With both teams desperate for a turnaround, Tuesday’s contest promises a fierce, evenly poised battle, one that could set the tone for their respective promotion pushes in the weeks ahead.
