The 29-year old is now looking to end Rollers' six-year championship drought

Former Kenya Police midfielder Kenneth Muguna says he had been a keen follower of his new team Township Rollers, even before agreeing to join them on a two-year contract last week.

Muguna, 29, was unveiled by the Botswana top-flight club on Friday, 22 August, following his exit from FKF Premier League side Kenya Police late last month.

The move, which caught many by surprise, marked his third stint abroad, coming after spells in Albania and Tanzania for KF Tirana and Azam FC respectively.

In an interview with Telecomasia soon after joining his new club, the former Gor Mahia man revealed of his soft interest with the Blue and Gold, saying that it was a club already familiar to him.

“I have been following Rollers and their progress since around 2016,” Muguna said. “It is a club I know really well. They have the biggest history in Botswana’s football circles but have not had success over the last six years.”

As the midfielder - unveiled under the name ‘Popa’ - rightly mentions, Township Rollers last enjoyed league success in the 2018/19 campaign, but the new man is not ready to see that drought extend.

“My ambition is to help the team win the league this season,” he said. “It will be great for the club and fans if we make it.”

Muguna’s latest spell at Kenya Police brought him much success, as he followed up a Mozzart Bet Cup triumph in 2024 with the team’s maiden FKF Premier League title last season.

On why he opted to leave for Botswana, he said: “I wanted to have a new challenge and experience something new. I have played mostly in East Africa and when the chance to come to Botswana opened up it was an easy decision.”

The former Western Stima man has already joined his new teammates, and was pictured in one of their training sessions.

Having just joined Rollers this week, Muguna was missing from the team’s squad as they recorded a 2-1 comeback win over Morupule Wanderers on Saturday.
