Seal hosted the Glamour Boys on Sunday, 24 November at St. Sebastian Park, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
In a previous communication by the broadcasting partners, the match, which is one of the biggest fixtures in the league, was scheduled for broadcast by the national broadcaster, KBC, who, together with other parties involved, explained the reason for the blackout.
“We wish to address the matter regarding the Murang'a Seal vs Shabana FKF Premier League match that was scheduled for live broadcast on KBC Channel One.
The match did not air as planned due to capacity challenges encountered by the production company contracted to cover the fixture,” reads the opening part of the statement.
The letter went ahead to discredit online reports that seemed to lay blame on the competing teams.
“Claims circulating online suggesting that Murang'a Seal or Shabana obstructed the broadcast are false and unfounded. The two clubs were not involved in any way in the production setback.”
The letter concluded by reaffirming the intention of the league’s management to improve viewership as a way of promoting and marketing Kenyan football.
“We sincerely apologise to all fans, sponsors and stakeholders affected by this mishap. As partners committed to expanding access to local football, we remain dedicated to improving our broadcast delivery and ensuring such disruptions are avoided going forward.
We thank all stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support,” it concluded.
In the Sunday afternoon clash, Shabana took the lead in the eighth minute through Wycliffe Owino before veteran forward John Kiplagat restored parity in the 36th minute, a scoreline that remained so until the final whistle.
Shabana are now eighth on the log with 12 points, two better than Seal, who are 16th after 10 rounds of matches.
