FC Talanta will have to do without the services of their head coach Kenneth Kenyatta in their league game against Nzoia Sugar after the management of the club suspended the tactician.
Impeccable sources at the club indicate that Kenyatta was suspended on Tuesday over a series of poor performances in the league and the early exit from the Mozzart Bet Cup among other grounds.
Kenyatta joined Talanta in 2020 from the defunct Ushuru and would inspire the Communications Authority of Kenya-sponsored team to gain promotion to the top tier the following year.
The promotion with Talanta saw the CAF A coaching badge holder return to the top flight after five years in the National Super League.
Under Kenyatta, Talanta did incredibly well in their maiden season in the top flight, finishing 12th on the log with 44 points although the season was later annulled by the federation.
The club finished 14th last season and is currently among the scores of outfits staring at the danger of relegation.
Their dream to clinch the Mozzart Bet Cup was crashed by Division 2 side Bungoma Stars who defied the odds to beat them 1-0 in the round of 32 played three weeks ago at the Police Sacco Grounds.
In the absence of Kenyatta on the touchline in the league tie against Nzoia, his assistant and right-hand man Jackson Gatheru will take charge with former skipper Patrick Muchiri offering the much-needed assistance.
Efforts to hear from the club on the suspension of the former goalkeeper didn’t bear fruit as calls to the Chief Executive Officer Godfrey Mwaloma went unanswered.
Meanwhile, Nzoia are on the verge of securing the services of coach Mike Mururi. The club is currently coach-less after Steve Biko was suspended last week over poor performance.
Club chairman Yappets Mokua confirmed that Mururi was in pole position to succeed Biko.
“He is among those we have shortlisted for the job although he is not yet hired,” said Mokua who insisted that trainer Peter Gin will be in charge in their league tie against FC Talanta.
Mururi is a former Chemelil, Soy United, Sofapaka, Kakamega Homeboyz and Mulembe United coach.
