As per the club chairman, five names are in the run-in for the permanent role

Football Kenya Federation side Nzoia Sugar have roped in former player Peter Gin to take over as interim head coach, even as the club plots for a permanent man in charge.

The announcement made by the club on Saturday morning comes after the club failed to meet their tentative date by which they were to announce their new coach, as reported by Mozzart Sport.

Nzoia chairman Yappets Mokua said that “administrative issues” came in the way of the planned Friday 8 March announcement, and that Gin, who earlier last year served as the team’s assistant coach, would hold the seat until a new appointment is made in the coming week.

Mokua stated that his office received and went through five applications.

Those considered out of the picture, as per the administrator, are former coach Godfrey Oduor, who was fired in January this year, and the still-suspended interim coach Steve Biko.

Biko, who secured one win in the four fixtures he was in charge of the team, was shown the door on Wednesday, placing Gin as the third man to take the touchline for Nzoia this season.

Gin’s first and maybe only assignment in his interim role this season, will come on Sunday in a match against FC Talanta at Sudi Stadium.

His former club, which he served for since 2012, is currently placed at rock bottom in the league after 23 rounds and is eight points from safety.
