Former Leopards boss lost bid to become Chippa Technical Director over his dark past

After losing his second bid to take over the reigns at Chippa United, former AFC Leopards tactician Luc Eymael has elected to return home to concentrate on clearing his name.

Eymael was provisionally unveiled as the club’s Technical Director on Monday following the exit of Dan Malesela but his alleged racists remarks made while at Yanga last year came back to haunt him again.

The former AL Nasr gaffer is accused of labelling Yanga fans as monkeys and dogs who had limited knowledge of the game.

A public outcry ensued shortly after Chippa took to their social media pages to announce the Belgian as Malesela’s successor forcing them to reverse his appointment after reading the public mood.

Even though the club argued that Eymael had independently cleared his name, the online backlash backed by threats from Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) carried the day.

Chippa unsuccessfully tried to hire the former Rayon Sports coach in December last year after the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) openly objected their move and subsequently asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deny him a work permit.

Additionally, SAFA requested the FIFA Ethics Committee to charge the former AS Vita boss for unapologetically violating the set code of conduct.

Eymael in an interview with Kickoff, says he will have to fly back home and work on his clearance.

I can't say much, everything is with my representatives and lawyers. I am still in Port Elizabeth and will travel to Johannesburg tomorrow and probably will leave for Belgium the day after,” he said.

The former Al Merrikh coach is not new to the Premier League Soccer having tutored Free States Stars and Black Leopards in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
