The Danish striker who played for Arsenal in his peak experienced what it’s like to play football there while he was playing for Rosenborg BK in Norway. He could barely wait for the match to end. He felt uncomfortable and miserable, while FK Bodo/Glimt thrives in those conditions and knows how to use the opponents’ frustration against them.
“Freezing, boring, grey. Actually, it’s black. The dressing room is ridiculous. Then you sit there — big football stars earning between 250 and 500 thousand euros per week — and you just stare at each other. You sit down, look at your teammate and say: ‘I hope you’re having a great day, because I’m not, not even close.’ To be honest, I’ve been in that situation” Bendtner recalled in an interview about trips to the far north of Norway.
He said he felt terrible when Rosenborg visited Bodo/Glimt — he hated it more than anything and was freezing on the pitch.
“It ended with me asking to be substituted at one point. I just couldn’t keep playing” the Dane admitted. Bodo/Glimt are used to such conditions and actually enjoy them, while opponents often pray for the referee to blow the final whistle as soon as possible. That mindset can lead straight to disaster. If Sporting fail to adapt properly, they could easily suffer the same fate as those who came before them.
