Chelsea boss revealed that his best player will miss another six weeks with a groin injury

Chelsea's brightest spark will remain out of action. Enzo Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer will be sidelined for at least six more weeks due to a persistent groin problem that refuses to heal.

The 23-year-old, who limped off against Manchester United last month, has not played since.

The Blues' medical staff opted for rest instead of surgery, but the player's recovery has hit another setback.

"Unfortunately, he needs to be out for another six weeks," Maresca admitted ahead of Chelsea's Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest (Saturday, 2.30 pm ). "We're trying to protect Cole as much as possible. The key is that when he returns, he's fully fit. The medical team are not magicians - we hope six weeks are enough."

The news is a hammer blow not just for Chelsea, but also for Thomas Tuchel's England, who have already sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Palmer, once seen as a vital piece of England's creative future, may now struggle to earn a recall in time for the tournament.

He has missed five of the last seven Three Lions' camps and has featured only once under Tuchel.

For now, Chelsea must find solutions without their talisman - and England can only hope that the clock doesn't tick too fast on one of their brightest young stars.
