The Chelsea player put a lot of effort into his celebration and nickname, and in the end, he succeeded — “Cold Palmer” is now officially trademarked

Cole Palmer has officially secured the trademark for “Cold Palmer,” ending a lengthy legal dispute with a French vineyard.

The Chelsea midfielder first applied last year to trademark both his trademark “ice cold” celebration and the nickname “Cold Palmer,” aiming to use them for a variety of commercial products — from clothing and food to toiletries, drinks, and toys.

Trouble arose, however, when Chateau Palmer, a prestigious Bordeaux vineyard in the Margaux region, objected to the inclusion of alcohol in the filing. The winemaker, whose bottles can sell for up to 750 pounds, argued that the similarity in names could damage its brand reputation. Following legal proceedings, Palmer’s team was forced to revise the application, removing references to wine — a move that ultimately cleared the way for approval.

Now, weeks later, the UK Intellectual Property Office has granted Palmer exclusive rights to the “Cold Palmer” name. The trademark, valid until November 25, 2034, allows him to market an array of products — from soaps and bath salts to spirits, teddy bears, and even underwater vehicles. The registration also ensures no one else can commercially use the “Cold” nickname without his consent.

Palmer’s famous “Cold” celebration originated back in December 2023, after he scored in Chelsea’s 3–2 win over Luton Town. He later revealed that the gesture wasn’t originally his idea — it came from his former Manchester City academy teammate Morgan Rogers, who had used a similar pose while celebrating for Middlesbrough a week earlier. Palmer promised to copy it the next time he scored — and the rest, as they say, is history.
