Dying-minutes kings under Slot's command

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 15.09.25. | 12:36

The earliest winner Liverpool scored in the first four EPL rounds came in the 83rd minute, while two of their decisive goals came deep in added time

Some would call it luck. Some would say it's persistence. Some would argue it's the champions' DNA. Whatever it is, it's been working perfectly for Liverpool this season.

Unlike the previous season, in which Arne Slot's team mainly crushed their rivals, this season, with a paradoxically much stronger and more lavish squad, the Dutchman's machinery slightly struggles. But that doesn't affect their results, as they are 4/4 in the Premier League so far, topping the table.

However, the Reds' late winners happen too often for it to be just a coincidence and for us not to notice that phenomenon.

In the four EPL rounds played so far, Liverpool's earliest winner came in the 83rd minute in a derby against Arsenal, when Dominik Szoboszlai netted a free-kick beauty - officially the Goal of the Month for August.

In the remaining three duels, the Reds sealed the deal even later - practically in the dying minutes.

The opening round against Bournemouth started perfectly, as Slot's men were 2-0 up since the 49th minute. Yet, Antoine Semenyo's brace caused panic at Anfield, and this "fire" was put out in the 88th and 94th minutes thanks to Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.

If that was a genuine rollercoaster for the Scousers, what can one say about the clash against Newcastle?

The Reds were again 2-0 up, this time since the 46th minute, against the ten-man Magpies. And then a deja vu - although in a disadvantaged position, Eddie Howe's men managed to level the score two minutes before the end.

Still, Liverpool again refused to fail, as the teenager Rio Ngumoha saved them deep in added time, in the 100th minute!

A week later, Szoboszlai's winner against the Gunners came early for Liverpool's standards, but yesterday, the Anfield crew went back to its modus operandi.

Burnley held out for 95 minutes against the champions - despite Lesley Ugochukwu's 84th-minute red card - only to be brought to their knees by their own player, Hannibal Mejbri.

The Tunisian handballed in the box deep in added time, and Salah accepted the gift, scoring the late winner from the spot, to keep Liverpool's perfect league score after four rounds.

Now, some would undoubtedly say that the EPL leaders constantly show their resilience and never-give-up spirit. Yet, the question is, how long will this Liverpool's wild dying-minutes run last? The Reds won't always be saved by the bell, that's for sure, and Slot and Co. should be aware of that and try to change something before it's too late.
