Dreadful five days for ex-United managers: Ole + Mou + Erik = 3 sacks
Reading Time: 3min | Tue. 02.09.25. | 22:19
Between August 28 and September 1, Solskjaer, Mourinho, and Ten Hag were all fired by Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively
We've recently encountered numerous examples of former Man United players who revive their careers and start shining when they leave Old Trafford and poor spells with the Red Devils behind. Scott McTominay, Antony, Marcus Rashford, David de Gea... The list goes on.
However, the situation is completely opposite regarding managers, as former United bosses can't catch a break lately.
In just five days, three ex-Red Devils' coaches got sacked from their respective clubs!
So 3 former Manchester United coaches have been sacked in a space of 5 days?

The one who kicked off this terrible run was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was fired from Besiktas on August 28 after losing to the Swiss side Lausanne in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers' play-off round.
Approximately a month before, the Norwegian and his crew were thrashed by Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, so the Turkish side's management's decision doesn't come as a surprise.
Just a day later, Solskjaer's predecessor at Man United, Jose Mourinho, was sacked from another Turkish club, Fenerbahce, after spending two years in Istanbul.
Like in Ole's case, European qualifiers cost the Special One dearly. Two days prior to the sack, Fenerbahce were eliminated by Benfica in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers' play-off, failing to return to the UCL group stage, in which they haven't played since 2008!
Adding Galatasaray's dominance in domestic football, it's no wonder the defeat to Benfica was the straw that broke the camel's back and led to Mourinho's dismissal.
Finally, Solskjaer's successor at Old Trafford - excluding the caretaker Michael Carrick and the interim manager Ralf Rangnick - Erik ten Hag was fired yesterday after spending only 62 days on Bayer Leverkusen's bench!
Ten Hag's crew was in a crisis already during the pre-season when they lost to Flamengo's U-20 team 5-1. However, Lever's awful start of the new Bundesliga campaign cost the Dutchman his job.
Namely, Bayer first lost to Hoffenheim 2-1 after a comeback in the opening round and then suffered a genuine breakdown three days ago against Werder. They were 3-1 up in Bremen against the ten-man home crew, and still failed to win, allowing the Green-Whites to salvage a 3-3 draw with a late goal in stoppage time.

"The decision by Bayer Leverkusen this morning to put me on a leave of absence came as a complete surprise. To part ways with a manager after just two league matches is unprecedented.

However, unlike Solskjaer and Mourinho, who didn't make any statements regarding their dismissals, Ten Hag issued one via the SEG agency, claiming he was surprised by the club's decision, calling it "unprecedented."
He further stated that his relationship with Lever "was never a relationship based on mutual trust" and that "clubs that placed their trust in him have been rewarded with success and silverware."
