Dortmund avoid defeat but stumble in title race

Following Borussia's 2-2 draw against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich can put the champagne on ice and wait for their title celebration

A month ago, Bayern Munich failed to win in back-to-back Bundesliga games, losing to Augsburg and drawing with HSV. At the same time, Borussia Dortmund were on a fantastic winning run, managing to close the gap behind the Bavarians to six points, and return a dose of uncertainty into the title race.

However, the BVB's streak was broken today after six victories, as Niko Kovac's crew drew against Red Bull Leipzig on the road (2-2), allowing Bayern to escape to an eight-point gap.

Still, things could have been even worse for Dortmund, as they were 2-0 down at the break following Christoph Baumgartner's brace.

Five minutes into the second half, Romulo Cardoso scored an own goal, helping Borussia to pull one back, while Kovac subbed on all his offensive trump cards (Julian Brandt, Carney Chukwuemeka, Fabio Silva, and Karim Adeyemi), desperately trying to make a comeback.

In the end, his risk paid off, as Silva levelled in the fifth minute of added time, preventing his team's defeat. However, given the situation on the Bundesliga table and Bayern's ruthless form - a draw or a defeat doesn't make much of a difference for BVB.
