Done deal – Adeyemi joins Barcelona!

Barcelona will have heavy artillery in their attacking frontline. Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon, and Dani Olmo are all there, and now they have been officially joined by—Karim Adeyemi. The Catalan club officially confirmed that the German international has signed a contract through 2031.

The fee Barcelona will pay Borussia Dortmund stands at €22,000,000 fixed, with an additional €9,000,000 in add-ons. On top of all that, the German club will retain a 35% sell-on clause from any future transfer.

All things considered, Borussia pulled off an exceptional piece of business. They were backed into a corner, dealing with a player who wanted a change of scenery while entering the final year of his contract. Not only did they receive an instant financial boost, but they will also cash in down the line if Adeyemi breaks out.

The key figure in the transfer was Hansi Flick. The Barca manager personally insisted on signing Adeyemi, whom he had previously handed his senior debut for the German national team. The winger even turned down two offers from the Premier League because of the call from Spain.

Last season, Adeyemi scored ten goals and provided six assists in all competitions, though he barely stepped foot on the pitch toward the end of the campaign after refusing to extend his contract and exhibiting rather bizarre behavior.

When substituted against Borussia Monchengladbach, he got into a verbal altercation with manager Niko Kovac and sporting director Sebastian Kehl. Earlier this year, he was fined €450,000 for possessing brass knuckles and a taser, both of which are illegal in Germany.

Nevertheless, no one can deny his talent and ability, which is precisely why Barca wanted him. When negotiations opened, Borussia demanded €40,000,000, while the Catalans' initial offer was half that amount (€20,000,000). In the end, the two clubs met in the middle at €22,000,000 fixed.

Now Barcelona must address their center-forward situation. Robert Lewandowski has departed, Ferran Torres could also leave the Camp Nou, and the team will be left without a natural number nine. On the wings, however, depth is no longer an issue—few teams in Europe boast that level of quality in wide positions.
