Desperate Liverpool is chasing Xabi Alonso’s discarded gem

A phenomenal player has been pushed aside by the Spaniard, and Liverpool believes he would fit their style of play
Liverpool’s season has taken a sharp and unexpected turn. Just months removed from lifting the Premier League trophy, the champions now find themselves deep in a winter wobble — and a big-name solution is already being discussed: Eduardo Camavinga.
The English outlet CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool are preparing an offer in the region of 60 million euros for the Real Madrid midfielder. Arne Slot, who is feeling the pressure himself despite last season’s triumph, views Camavinga as a must-have reinforcement to bring control and stability back to a struggling midfield.

That Liverpool even needs another major signing speaks volumes. After all, the club poured more than 450 million euros into the summer window, snapping up blockbuster names like Wirtz and Isak. But the expected dominance never materialized. Instead, form collapsed: a run of league defeats dragged the Reds down to eighth, and the recent 1–4 humiliation at Anfield against PSV in the Champions League added to the drama.
Camavinga, who arrived at Real Madrid in 2021 for 31 million euros, has already collected every major trophy available — Champions League, La Liga, Super Cup. Yet his time in Spain has been complicated by injuries and fierce competition, limiting his chances. This season, he has completed a full 90 minutes just once. Out of ten La Liga matches, he started only three. Xabi Alonso praised him in September, saying the midfielder “has incredible potential, many qualities, and a place in our project. He’s hungry and ready.”
Still, CaughtOffside claims that Real Madrid are internally debating his long-term role. A sale would help fund future targets, and a 60 million euros offer would at least spark negotiations. With a contract until 2029, Madrid remain in full control of the situation.
Liverpool, however, won’t have a free run at him. Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all tracking the Frenchman. PSG and Bayern Munich, long-time admirers, are also reportedly in the mix. But the urgency is clearest at Anfield. The champions look drained, both physically and mentally, and Slot desperately needs more steel and balance in midfield. Captain Virgil van Dijk recently emphasized the need for “consistency and stability across all areas of the team.”
And those qualities define Camavinga — intense presser, powerful athlete, dynamic mover, capable of playing multiple positions. The type of midfielder who instantly raises the level of an entire side.
Camavinga, for his part, loves Madrid — the city, the club, the environment. But he also wants minutes, especially with the World Cup approaching next year.
