Deadline Day outside England: Italian party with Rabiot, Hojlund & Vardy, PSG's sale, Bayern snatch Jackson after chaos

Reading Time: 4min | Tue. 02.09.25. | 14:19

Excluding EPL sides, Serie A teams seem to have been the most active in this transfer window, while Lookman became one of its biggest losers

We've already stated that the Premier League clubs were the most active during Deadline Day, but that doesn't mean the clubs outside England slept through yesterday's D-Day.

On the contrary, clubs from Italy, France, Germany, and Spain did business but not as extensively as the EPL teams. Still, some notable moves occurred yesterday out of the British Islands.

SERIE A

With all due respect to everyone else, Jamie Vardy's move to Cremonese has to be transfer news #1 regarding the Deadline Day and Italy. The Englishman was reportedly Napoli's target at some point, but no one expected his arrival on the Boot, especially not to the newly promoted side.

Benjamin Pavard's departure from Stadio Giuseppe Meazza went on and off throughout the entire Deadline Day, and even though Inter Milan's chairman Beppe Marotta claimed the Frenchman was going nowhere, he ended up at Marseille.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri instantly found a replacement for the 29-year-old, bringing Manuel Akanji from Man City on loan.

Marseille brought Pavard, but definitely lost Adrien Rabiot. AC Milan took advantage of the midfielder's turbulent situation at Stade Velodrome and signed a fantastic player, who is supposed to form a tandem with Luka Modric. Furthermore, the Rossoneri signed Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku, who penned a five-year deal with the San Siro club.

Although it was hinted at days ago, Napoli finalized Rasmus Hojlund's arrival from Man United just yesterday, hoping that the Dane would once again be the net-buster he had been during his days at Atalanta.

Juventus' moves went a little under the radar yesterday. The Bianconeri sent Nico Gonzalez to Atletico Madrid and then brought in Edon Zhegrova - who was once on several EPL clubs' radar - from Lille, reuniting him with Jonathan David.

In addition, the Old Lady signed Lois Openda from RB Leipzig and now has one of the most terrifying attacking trios of the Belgian, David, and Dusan Vlahovic. Massimiliano Allegri will be spoiled for choice, that's for sure!

Finally, Ademola Lookman may be the biggest loser of the transfer window in Italy, as he was on Inter Milan, Bayern, and Tottenham's radars but ended up going nowhere from Atalanta. Now, his only options are eventual moves to Saudi Arabia or Turkey. Otherwise, he'll have to stay in Bergamo, at least until January.

LIGUE 1

In the Italian section, we've mentioned which players left Marseille and Lille, though they weren't the only ones who said farewell to France.

Paris Saint-Germain got rid of three players! Gianluigi Donnarumma and Randal Kolo Muani joined the Premier League sides, Man City and Tottenham, while Marco Asensio became the new Fenerbahce player. Still, the Frenchman will return to Paris after a season-long loan, while the Italian and Spaniard's spells at Parc des Princes are over.

Rabiot's departure left a hole in Marseille fans' hearts, which L'OM management tried to fill with as many as four players!

Besides Pavard mentioned above, Olympique signed three Premier League players: Matt O'Riley from Brighton and West Ham's duo, Emerson Palmieri and Nayef Aguerd.

Olympique Lyon started the Ligue 1 season very well with two triumphs, but from now on they'll have to get used to life without their first-choice striker, Georges Mikautadze, who joined the Spanish Villarreal and will play in the UEFA Champions League this season.

BUNDESLIGA

The main transfer story in Germany was Bayern Munich's "war" with Chelsea regarding Nicolas Jackson. After much drama, the Bavarians brought the Senegalese on loan and paid €16.5 million for that deal.

On the other hand, the most shocking move in the Bundesliga was Victor Boniface's arrival in Bremen! The Nigerian was on the brink of joining AC Milan just a week ago, but that deal still fell through, so he'll have to spend the next season on loan at Werder.

Eintracht Frankfurt found another gem, this time at Newcastle, bringing the Magpies' talented striker, William Osula, for €35 million, and will try to turn him into another diamond worth at least twice as much.

In the end, Sporting Lisbon's Dane Conrad Harder, who was on Chelsea and AC Milan's radar, opted for RB Leipzig, knowing that the Bundesliga side would give him the most playing time. Smart move from a 20-year-old boy.

LA LIGA

Nothing much happened in Spain during Deadline Day. Real Madrid and Barcelona were quiet, and when that happens, no one should expect many bombastic moves.

Probably the two most notable transfers in Spain were Alexis Sanchez's return to La Liga after 11 years and his move to Sevilla (to replace Dodi Lukebakio, who joined Benfica) and Antony's permanent move to Real Betis.

Other than the two former Man United players, it's worth mentioning that Atletico Madrid - apart from signing Gonzalez from Juve - refused to let Conor Gallagher return to Crystal Palace.
