Nobody else wanted the Brazilian so Manchester had to give in to Betis

It had to end this way. Betis wanted it all along, Antony wanted it all along, and Manchester United finally gave in. Although the English giants had other plans—to send him to a club that would pay more in transfer fees—they eventually granted the winger’s wish, as he had been saying for months that he wanted to return to Andalusia. In the final hours of the transfer window, the Red Devils allowed him to go back to Seville, where he had been on loan last season. Betis confirmed that they signed the former Ajax player in a deal worth 22,000,000 plus another 3,000,000 euros in bonuses. That way, United will at least recover something for a player Erik ten Hag had brought from Amsterdam for as much as 95,000,000. On the other hand, you can look at this transfer in another light: The Red Devils just allowed a 60 million pounds loss on the deadline day, if we count in his exit fee and his Ajax fee.

Interestingly, Betis actually bought 50 percent of Antony’s contract, while the other half is shared between Manchester United and the player himself. This means everyone will benefit when the time comes for a future sale. That sale could be a big one—Antony was involved in 14 goals in 26 appearances for Betis, while during his 96 matches for Manchester United he contributed to 17 goals. For now, though, Antony could delight Betis fans, as he has signed a contract until 2030! The total cost for Betis over that period, including the transfer fee and wages, will be around 60,000,000.
