President William Ruto once again extended his support to the team by hosting them to a luncheon at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday, 28 August.

It was while speaking at the luncheon that the Head of State extended his grace to the squad, who in turn were given conditions to fulfil.

Each of the squad members has been granted an opportunity to own a two-bedroom house under the government's Affordable Housing Program (AHP).

However, with each unit priced at Ksh2 million, the cost will be shared between the government and individual members of the team.

“We (government) are going to pay Ksh1 million for you and then you will pay the other Ksh1 million either in cash or we will give you a mortgage that you will pay over a period of 20 years, where you are going to pay about Ksh3,000 every month,” said President Ruto.

Additionally, the houses on offer will be in a town of each player's choice and cannot be transferred or exchanged for money, according to the President.

The Head of State cautioned that the government is not issuing free houses or breaking the law and rules in favour of the team.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we are not dishing out houses or bending the rules for anyone. These players are buying, and we are paying half for them as a way of recognising their effort,” added President Ruto.

The affordable houses came after the President promised the team a two-bedroom house and Ksh1 million for each player if they had won their quarter-final clash against Madagascar.

Unfortunately, Kenya lost to Madagascar on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time.

The players were also promised a three-bedroom house should they have proceeded to the semi-final and won it.
