Coastal Heroes team manager Ken Onukho believes that they can easily sail to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League if they nail down a commercial partner.
Heroes have been living from hand to mouth since the Kenya Power and Lighting Company terminated the shirt sponsorship, citing low revenue returns.
KPLC withdrew its sponsorship of Heroes in 2020, with Western Stima and Nairobi Stima clubs also being affected.
The decision to cut financial aid to Western Stima and Nairobi Stima had a significant impact, as both clubs have since folded.
Onukho regretted that the coastal side had overstayed in the Super League, contrary to their plan and wishes of playing in the top tier.
He attributed their inability to scale up to the top league to a lack of a stable source of funding to sustain a successful promotion hunt.
Heroes have been losing their key players in the past few seasons due to lack of funds to bankroll their activities without strain.
“The teams that get promoted are the ones that have deep pockets. The trend in the past few seasons has proved it. If we get a shirt sponsor, I believe we will be promoted,” he said.
Two weeks ago, Heroes urged interested players to show up at their training facility and try out ahead of the start of the new season.
According to Onukho, only five players will be signed at the end of the exercise, which is set to resume after their coaches return to Mombasa.
Heroes head coach and his assistant are in Nairobi for the CAF B coaching course studies.
“We will sign five players only. We didn’t lose many players this window, unlike in past ones,” he added.
