Close enough: Kobbie to fill in for KDB at Napoli?
Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 01.11.25. | 13:46
With Kevin De Bruyne sidelined due to an injury and Frank Anguissa likely to play for Cameroon at the upcoming AFCON, the Neapolitans focused all their attention on Man United's Kobbie Mainoo
Even though Napoli currently top the Serie A table, the title race will be anything but easy. After all, Roma are tied with them in the leading position, while the rivals from the City of Fashion - Inter Milan and AC Milan - are just three steps behind.
Antonio Conte and his men aim to extend their winning run to three today against Como at home (20.00), but it'll be a very tough challenge, especially since Cesc Fabregas and his crew are currently fifth, just five points behind the leaders.
The Serie A champions will once again be deprived of the help of Kevin De Bruyne, who is still sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The Belgian is 34 and isn't getting any younger, which means that his body is more fragile than ever.
Furthermore, people at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona are looking ahead to the future and are aware that the African Cup of Nations is approaching. So, instead of focusing on keeping injury-prone De Bruyne healthy, they have to think of another problem, as one of Conte's most crucial players and scorer of four goals in the current campaign, Frank Anguissa, will most likely join the Cameroon national team in Morocco.
Hence, it's clear that Conte's midfield urgently needs reinforcement, and Napoli may have found one in Manchester, as they are considering adding Kobbie to fill in for KDB - or, to clarify, they are highly keen on Man United's youngster Mainoo.

Napoli will make another attempt to sign England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo from Manchester United in January.

The job is still far from realization, but the fact that Ruben Amorim doesn't count on the Englishman, as well as De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour, and Scott McTominay's fantastic adaptation to the club from Naples following their arrival from the Premier League, could accelerate Mainoo's move to Italy.
Still, all eyes at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona are currently on Como, which showed their full strength two weeks ago when they brushed aside Juventus. The Old Lady will also play today, against Cremonese on the road (22.45), and try to catch up with the top teams in the league, though the rivals are a tough nut to crack, sitting just one point behind the Bianconeri.
