CAFCL: El Moutaraji's double over Al Ahly seals third title for Wydad Casablanca

Wydad Casablanca will now play at the FIFA Club World Cup

Zouhair El Moutaraji scored twice as Wydad Casablanca saw off Al Ahly 2-0 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Morocco to win their third CAF Champions League title.

Al Ahly were on a mission to get their hands on a third consecutive champions league title, an 11th one in total but they will now have to take their hunt for that next season as Wydad came out strongly to claim their third.

Zouhair El Moutaraji opened the scoring for the Moroccan side with a long-range attempt after just a quarter of an hour against the run of play at that time. El Moutaraji was set up by Aymane El Hassouni after the latter intercepted the ball from Al Ahly, took a touch with his right foot, then thundered home past the Mohamed flying El-Shenawy to give Wydad the lead.

Minutes before El Moutaraji's goal, Guy Mbenza had attempted a similar strike from the right side of the attack but he was denied by the upright with Mohamed El-Shenawy already beaten.

The fans at the Mohammed V Stadium were exceptional from the first whistle, and even before that, to the last as they created a cauldron of noise even after Wydad took the lead.

Al Ahly came alive shortly after the goal and kept it that way for the remaining bit of the second half, launching attack after attack but they still could not find the equalizer.

Wydad's custodian Amine Farhane came in handy with three minutes left to play in the first half as he came off his line, and off his area, to clear a ball ahead of the onrushing Al Ahly strikers to see his side head into the break with their lead intact.

Three minutes into the second half, El Moutaraji struck again to double Wydad's lead and make the mountain harder to claim for Al Ahly, but they still had time to turn tables but did not in the end.

The second goal seemed to throw Al Ahly's plans for the second half into disarray as Wydad took control of the game for a while before Al Ahly grew back into the game and continued their hunt for a goal back

Green lasers were evidently visible in the match, a form of distraction that is now being widely used across the continent.

But mostly, the fans sang their hearts out to the end!
